Birmingham WM 4 bedworth United 4

It was a thursday night at the trevor brown memorial ground as 2nd faced 3rd in the midlands division one. As bedworth united travelled up to play birmingham west midlands. With the traffic in birmingham there was fears it would be pushed back to a 8pm kick off but everyone thankfully arrived in time to keep the game at a 7.45pm kick off. The teams lined up and Kevin from Switch Radio annouced the teams and it was time to kick off.

The game kicked off and Holly “I’m not waiting for you to sit down” Rogers broke through the Bedworth defence and scored within the first minute making it 1-0 to Birmingham West Midlands. Holly had ran in behind and left Eve Galt no chance in the Bedworth goal. Alot of the play was coming from Birmingham West Midlands as Tanya Dickinson went close but Galt came to the rescue. Laura Cooper just as I said she should shoot took aim and clattered it off the crossbar. Birmingham WM were piling the pressure on but couldn’t find the second goal as Jade Grove worked well in behind to have her effort saved by Galt again. Alex Liddiard tried to get the rebound home but it came to nothing as the scored stayed 1-0 to Birmingham WM.

With all the pressure a great break from Kirsty Farnsworth was unleashed as Birmingham WM cleared the ball for a corner but Bedworth would show how deadly they was at set pieces all game. But a beautiful ball came into the box as Abbie Taylor left Shannon Turner no chance to react in the Birmingham WM goal as she got a close range header to make it 1-1. Jade Grove was using her strength to get in behind but once again Eve Galt pulled off the save keeping it level. As always a beautiful and pinpoint corner was scrambled back across the box by Erin Riden as the ball fell to Holly Rogers she doubled her tally as she struck the ball well with quick reactions to make the score 2-1 to Birmingham WM. Bedworth never let heads drop though as they won a free kick near the edge of the box that saw Daina Scott pick up a booking for the team. As noted before just how deadly Bedworth were from set pieces and again Bedworth were level with a inch perfect free kick from Sophie Wilson that left Shannon Turner no chance with the score back level at 2-2.

Bedworth were in the lead for the first time as another set piece was perfectly lofted into the box and a cracking finish and header by Erin Riden saw Bedworth take a 2-3 lead. This seemed to effect Birmingham WM for a while as they stood off Bedworth and Bedworth had a purple patch in the game but couldn’t find the important next goal. There would be a 6th goal in the half as a beautiful corner once again Laura Cooper saw the ball be cleared off the line by the Bedworth defender and as it fell to Erin Riden her first shot was blocked but she kept going till she could poke the ball home for her second of the game. This time it was for Birmingham WM as she pulled it back to 3-3 just before the half time break. An incredible half that seemed to have everything and also 6 goals. What would come in the second 45 minutes of the game?

A big 45 minutes for both teams in battle to end the day in second position and Birmingham West Midlands nearly got off to the perfect start as Jade Grove broke in behind but Eve Galt was there to pull off the save once again. And it wasn’t too long once again until Eve Galt was called into action as she pulled off a save from Holly Rogers who was looking for her hatrick. It was becoming Galt Vs Birmingham WM at one stage as she pulled off the save from Jade Grove once again and the defence made a great clearance. Eve Galt was also playing the role of sweeper keeper throughout the game as Birmingham WM tried to get in behind.

Orla Conlan was Birmingham WM first subsitution on the 72nd minute as she replaced Nadia Bacciochi, which believe was Orla debut for Birmingham WM. It would be a Laura Cooper special once again that left the keeper no chance whatsoever as it dipped and powered into the top corner making the score 4-3 to Birmingham West Midlands. But you couldn’t keep Eve Galt out as once again she pulled off a save for the corner. Sam White came off in the 77th minute (after some terrible language and no sympathy from her team mates) as Jess Lundie returned to replace her.

As all game Laura Cooper’s deliveries were like a heatseeking missile for the goal and as the ball looked to go in from the corner Gillian Tetflow cleared the ball off the line. This would be key in the game as from this Bedworth broke with pace and some great play saw the ball get cut across to Kirsty Farnsworth who took a touch and hit a beautiful effort to bring Bedworth back level once again at 4-4. Unfortunately Holly Rogers couldn’t complete her hatrick as on the 82nd minute Holly came off for Millie Kirk to enter the pitch. Both teams tried to get the final goal to get the victory as Shannon Turner pulled off a cracking save late on too keep the score at 4-4. Jess Lundie came off the bench and caused trouble but as she broke in behind the defence her effort was just wide of the tagret. But it was Birmingham WM was to have the final key chance as Laura Cooper got in behind the defence but Eve Galt was brave in coming out to stop the ball and Laura as the free kick was given. The final whistle went with the score at 4-4, with a cracking game and some incredible goals.

I also just want to note quickly a massive thank you to the players and staff at Birmingham West Midlands for giving me a Birthday card after the game truly means alot really does. I may of got a bit shy guy and didn’t want to open till got home as players were looking at me in the bar but It’s truly appreciated and very much something that makes me smile alot.

Birmingham West Midlands

Some may look and say conceded 4 goals, but truly couldn't do anything about the goals by Bedworth and came up with the massive save at the end to make sure Birmingham WM didn't lose.
Shannon Turner
Got booked early on so was so disciplined throughout the game after to try and stop Bedworth attackers and still make sure she stayed on the pitch also.
Daina Scott
Lizzie always will win the ball back in a tackle and look instantly to get Birmingham WM up the wing, shows incredible pace and skill on the ball always.
Lizzie Steele
Always the driving force in the middle of the pitch, the enforcer ready to win the ball back and push Birmingham WM toward the oppositions goal.
Tanya Dickinson
Nadia worked hard throughout the game to try and get something going up the wing and connecting with Jade and Holly throughout the game.
Nadia Bacciochi
Used her power and skill to get in behind many times and on a different day against a different keeper could of had quite a few goals in the game.
Jade Grove
We all know what Jess will do soon as she comes on and she nearly nicked the winner at the end but it wasn't meant to be this time but so key for Birmingham WM always.
Jess Lundie
For me Player Of The Match, played the role of sweeper keeper throughout the second half and made some important saves.
Eve Galt
Had the hard task of standing up against Bedworth's best player who had pace but Alex as always worked hard throughout the game to keep her out.
Alex Liddiard
2 goals, 1 assist. Seems to be growing into the team each and every game as a solid CB for the team. Clears danger could be her middle name.
Erin Riden
Another couple for Holly and could of even scored a few more on another day. As always Holly dominates most defences going forward.
Holly Rogers
Classy as always and so deadly with her shooting hit the crossbar, scored one nearly another and always pinpoint on her set pieces into the box.
Laura Cooper
Terrible language, just joking always gives everything on and off the ball for Birmingham WM the engine in the middle of the pitch that never stops.
Sam White
Millie Kirk, Millie, Millie Kirk.. I was so ready for Millie to score the winner and her fresh legs were in behind ready so many times near the end.
Millie Kirk
First time I've seen Orla play and she didn't look out of place as she battled for the ball and gave Birmingham WM fresh legs in the centre of the pitch.
