Emily Ridge

I remember picking up a issue of She Kicks Magazine in 2015 when I saw an article that caught my attention, The New Saints forward, Emily Ridge. While trying to find out a little more was always a bit harder but fast forward into the start of 2016, chatting to Emily and from that I promised to attend a game.

After chatting to with Ben he told me the details about a game in Shrewsbury. It was a very cold night for sure in January as I can remember at half time we went back to the car to get warm by the heaters. This game had originally been played as a one off but finding out that she played in the Midlands Division One it meant that their away days were home games for me.

The one thing about Emily is not only is she a fantastic player to see but you also get to see Doug (Only Joking) but she is a person that is so hard not too like. Like a little princess from a Disney film until that whistle goes and then she goes and doesn’t mind putting herself about to make a tackle and win the ball back. In my time knowing Emily there are 3 things you can guarantee on a match day. 1. Goals, scores like a fish need’s water. 2. If Speedy Gonzalez was a footballer he’d still have trouble keeping up with Emily. 3. You’ll leave with a smile if you talk to her because she always gives you alot of time and her stories are always great.

At a time where I lost alot of love for going to the football and wasn’t sure what was going to do for a few reasons. In this time I found myself following TNS and Emily Ridge which ended up me writing in a programme for the FA Cup game, attended the awards evening and still only one I have ever been too. Even the lad’s enjoyed coming to see a game or two.

Although it’s not TNS anymore and the name has changed to Wem Town there are still people involved in the club. Emily Ridge, Laura Morris (Oswestry answer to Tobin Heath) and Taylor Davis. Loz still in charge as well so will always come to see Wem Town when the chance comes up. With Emily returning hopefully for more games like the second coming, be goals and goals for sure.

I asked how many times I could mention Doug before Emily stopped reading and she said he always steal’s her thunder but it’s always a pleasure to see her Dad as well as Doug at the games. But to wrap this up i’m really happy that it seems that Emily is back doing what she does best that doesn’t give her a sore head. Really looking forward to seeing the friendly for Wem Town against City Of Stoke on the 11th as well as the two games in the league when they play against Long Eaton.
