Loughborough Foxes 3-3 Long Eaton

Long Eaton travelled too Loughborough Foxes and we won’t get into where the game took place or the efforts and ridiculousness of how far away from the Stadium it was. But when finally found and got to the pitch it was time for the game to take place. It wasn’t a good start for Long Eaton as early on in the game after the 2nd minute Loughborough Foxes took an early lead. Chloe Young hit an effort from long range and caught Merle Schmid off her line with a first time effort from 40 yards into the top corner as the score became 1-0 to the hosts. Long Eaton looked to hit back and Molly Boultbee put it all on the line and had her own Waghorn moment as she went for the header with 100% commitment and collided with the post, which unfortunately led to her having to leave the pitch after trying to continue.

Both teams were looking to push each other but couldn’t find the final touch as Jordan Atkin was constantly winning the battle on wing and pinging it across the box. But it was Loughborough Foxes who doubled their lead on the 19th minute. Becky McGrother was the creator as she picked out Gunn at the far post to hit it home first time making it 2-0. Long Eaton seemed to dip a little with Loughborough Foxes now in control of the game at this point. But thankfully in these moments of being on top The Foxes couldn’t find a third goal. An impact injury on the 42 minute saw Gunn unable to continue hopefully it was just an impact and nothing too serious that impacts her future game time. Right at the end of the first half once again Jordan Atkin left the defence in her rear view and whipped a ball across the 6 yard box but no one was there to finish it off. To John Bennett’s and the benches dismay which you could see at half time as it was obvious he wanted more from the team. 2-0 at Half Time.

Long Eaton nearly found themselves 3-0 down early on in the second half but a worldie of a save from Merle Schmid off Emily Brett’s effort on the 52nd minute. They say a moment in a game can change everything and this must of woke up Long Eaton. It was nearly 2-1 on the hour mark but the Loughborough Foxes, Amy Burle pulled off a great save to keep the score at 2-0. But from the resulting corner a quick one taken found Millie Fugler who tried to whip in a quick cross but it struck the defenders arm and a penalty was given. Nikki Emery stepped up to take it as learning very quickly she loves to find the back of the net as she struck it hard and low to make it 2-1 with the game on, on the 62nd minute. Long Eaton were now on top in the game as they looked and pushed to make it all square.

But it was nearly Loughborough Foxes who extended the lead with Merle Schmid making another good save down low. And it was maybe the press of Long Eaton that saw them get caught out for a penalty as Loughborough Foxes got in over the top and Merle Schmid brought down the player in the area making the referee point to the spot. Emily Brett made no mistake as Loughborough Foxes reclaimed a 2 goal lead with the score at 3-1 on the 79th minute. But Long Eaton was up for the game still and didn’t let their heads drop as they chased the final 10 minutes.

On the 80th minute Tara Kirk connected with the corner and a goal area panic saw the ball strike players but the ball had crossed the line to make it 3-2 with the final 10 minutes to play, The linesman gave it and from our position behind the goal it looked like it had gone in but Amy Burle didn’t agree. But the corner came from a great save by Amy Burle as well as the Long Eaton pressure continued. And the comeback was on when Nikki Emery 4 minutes later as she struck her effort really well giving the keeper no chance, making it 3-3 with 5 minutes to play.

The game played out to a 3-3 draw with both teams leaving it all on the pitch, with a few niggles and arguments along the way it wasn’t helped by some lack refereeing at times but that seems to be football these days. Both teams made sure that it was a great game to watch. John Bennett will no doubt be so proud of the effort and performance in the second half and to walk away with the draw. Nikki Emery & Jordan Atkin both were fantastic throughout the game but it was a real team effort. Long Eaton next play their final pre-preseason game against West Brom at Grange Park on May 23rd, as it stands at the moment no fans can attend but hopefully with the news that comes on May 16/17th, people can attend the final game before the break.
