Long Eaton Vs Sheffield FC

The first preseason game saw long eaton welcome Graham abercrombie’s Sheffield FC team to Grange Park. A northern premier league team would be a big test. But not only against the team in the higher division but also with the elements on a sweltering hot day.

the game got underway and long eaton were on the front foot using the wings and the pace to get in behind which is no surprise the opening goal of the game came when Jordan Atkin used her trickery and skill to leave the Sheffield defence behind before she picked out Shanae Thomas who took a touch and finished into the corner giving Long Eaton an early lead.

It was Lauren Da’Casto who showed some magic on the ball as she flicked the stick and pressed the shoot button like a game of FIFA as she turned the defender and slammed the ball home to double Long Eaton’s lead just before half time.

the second half saw a lapse in the defence where Sheffield capitalized and pulled one back with a good finish. The game as a whole was very stop and start with the injuries and the weather playing a big part of it. But it always looked like Long Eaton would bag the next goal.

A worrying moment as Jordan Atkin needed treatment for a period of time but thankfully after being found to be ok and having a rest she returned to the pitch to cause havoc once again and it was Jordan who once again left the defence for dead before putting it on a plate for Jess Munn to put into the back of the net. Long Eaton restored a 2 goal advantage once again.

the game ran to it’s conclusion with it still being a stop and start game but a good and hard test for John Bennett’s team before the double header on Saturday against Mansfield Town.

We chatted with John below to find out about the game and his thoughts ahead of the Mansfield Town Game.

On The Sheffield Game –

It was Very beneficial for both clubs and huge credit to both teams in very hot and trying conditions, preseason is never about results but providing a basis of where we are as a group and a team and where need to be come august 15th, this is what our preseason schedule is all about giving players, formations and opportunities so we are in the best possible position in the league which will be the most open it has ever been.

Looking ahead to Mansfield in the double header Saturday –

This provides the players and staff a fantastic opportunity to showcas what we are all about against good quality opposition in front of a very healthy crowd.
