Reading Vs Aston Villa preview

Aston Villa Women will approach their first Sunday in the FAWSL for gameday two against Reading Women. After playing at the villa park stadium it should set them in good stead for the game at the madejski stadium. playing on a big pitch that is like a carpet is something that is sometimes an unknown to a team like Villa but with back to back games it could benefit our players. the game kicks off with a 2pm kick off on the FA Player this coming sunday.

When the fixtures come out it was obvious that it was going to be a very tough welcome to the FAWSL against a Manchester City team that will no doubt be fighting for the top two spots and securing Champions League football once again for themselves. Manchester City might not of got out of second gear and may of been wasteful at times. But after two mistakes in the first 20 minutes. Villa grew into the game and at times matched and threatened the Manchester City goal. The scoreline says 0-2 but everyone knows that Stine Larsen scored and was disallowed for no legit reason. But also in a game we drew 0-0 second half in and also created chances that made sure Ellie Roebuck had to work hard for her clean sheet.

Alot of positives can be taken from gameday one into gameday two and beyond into the season. The new players each added something to the match and our depth on the bench is shown when we can make 5 changes and they’re still are many others that deserve and could change a game. No one said that FAWSL would be easy and we are ready to prove that we aren’t just in the league to take part but to also compete.

Last Year’s Finishing Position – 5th

Current League Position – 12th

When i first got to see Aston Villa Women play in FAWSL 2, Reading were also in the same division but only for the first season and in their ranks was Emma Follis the year they won the FAWSL 2 and got promoted to FAWSL.

Reading had a rough opening game as well against an in form Arsenal who put 6 past them in a 6-1 defeat. But Reading like Villa will be looking for their opening win in the 20/21 campaign. Reading have some fantastic players in their squad as well so it will be a tough fixture as we visit them on our first away day. Players such as the returning Grace Moloney and her partner in goalkeeping crime Erin Nayler. They have Fara Williams, Natasha Harding, Jess Fishlock, Brooke Chaplen and many more players to look out for during the game.

This would of been a game certainly would of looked forward too seeing some of the Reading Fans that haven’t seen in quite a while but always a great bunch to have a chat with and come up against in the stands.
