Goal By Grace Godwin

The first preseason game back in the new season saw Aid Clements get the band back together as they welcomed Portishead Town Ladies to Four Dwellings. Not the normal home venue but while the new pitch is settling in ready for the new season, Four Dwellings became the new venue.

It was such a hot day as the game got underway and it was a great test for the team in Yellow and Black. Not only with the elements but also the opposition were tough to play against. But for a first game back getting the minutes in the legs were so important. It was a shame to have to see Chloe Shirley and Katie Johnson on the side lines rather than playing but hopefully soon they will be back on the pitch in the Yellow and Black.

Portishead Town were a game opponent and came away with a 1-2 victory but Leafield Athletic had chances that on other days could of seen the score a different way. Kathryn Pagan came close a few times and the ball hit the post which the keeper had left. Tash Weldon pull off a fantastic save in the first half as well so both teams could of extended the score in the heat.

The Leafield goal came from a header by Grace Godwin at the back post, bit like Alan Shearer in his prime. Grace even apart from the goal would of been my player of the match as she played a little further forward and push the Portishead defence.

The next game would see an away trip to Bournemouth as the team look to build towards the start of the new season.
