Kidderminster Harriers 5-1 Redditch United

Macy Fox (3), Dani Selmes (2)

18/12/22 – 3.00pm – University Of Wolverhampton, Walsall

West Midlands Regional Premier League.

It was the final game of 2022 and in advance of how bad the weather had been David had moved the game up to the University Of Wolverhampton, Walsall Campus to make sure the game was on. We arrived about 2pm and the weather was bad but by time it kicked off at 3pm it was biblical and the weather didn’t let up until the game had finished as well. Not only was it freezing but it was windy and raining to add to the day.

On the photos I took 4 and decided that it wasn’t a day for the photos I decided I would use my phone to take a few videos, the weather made sure I kept the umbrella up and gloves on.

The game got underway and fair play to the two teams for making it into a game under the weather conditions it wasn’t nice by any means. Katie Robinson hit a free kick that only just went over the bar early on. But it was Redditch United who took lead with a looping free kick that found it’s way into the back of the net from Neive Newman.

But it wasn’t long that Kidderminster was behind on the 7th minute as Danielle Selmes found Macy Fox who hit the ball home into the bottom right corner to make it 1-1. And 3 minutes later on the 10th minute it was Maisie McDonnell who put played in Macy Fox who just doesn’t miss as she put Kidderminster 2-1 up. It was nearly 3-1 as Jessica Rew’s effort went just wide.

But then a penalty was awarded to Redditch United, it was the other end to us but a chance to pull it back to 2-2. The effort went wide of the goal and it remained 2-1 but a reminder that Redditch were still a real threat.

This seemed to rewake up Kidderminster as it was the woodwork that stoped Macy Fox netting her third goal on the 36th minute. But a minute later it was 3-1 with Macy Fox this time becoming provider for Danielle Selmes who didn’t need a second invitation as she put it into the back of the net. The score remained 3-1 at half time as the rain continued to pour down as everyone ran for warmth and cover.

After taking cover and finding any kind of warm and heat as the referee said god let’s get back out there. The weather was just as bad in the 15 minute break so we was right back too it. Both teams again we battling with each other and the elements but not alot happened with stoppages. Both teams looking for the all important 5th goal in the game.

But who else but the fox in the box, Macy Fox completed her hatrick as she cut inside the defender on the 70th minute and put it into the top right corner making it 4-1 to Kidderminster and almost sealing the 3 points. Less than 5 minutes later the game was put to bed by Kidderminster. On the 75th minute, Captain Molly Maguire put it through for Danielle Selmes who completed her brace and a fantastic performance up top.

Even at 5-1 down Redditch never gave in where alot of players and teams in the conditions and the score might of let there heads drop but Marianna Redmond-Lyon was one of the bright sparks for Redditch, even Mark said like a mini Amy West (If you know that high praise). But Kidderminster were clinical in front of goal. The game ended 5-1 and everyone ran for cover and warmth.

This was my 6th Kidderminster Harriers game of the season. It all started when had seen them play Leafield in preseason and with David Healy and the signings he brought in, I had decided to give them a chance by attending another game in preseason and that defiantly made me wish to see them when I couldn’t see Leafield. Everyone at Khalsa friendly came to say thank you for coming to the game and this was such a nice touch.

Kidderminster Harriers now sit top of the West Midlands Regional Premier League as we go into the Christmas and New Year break. So as we finish 2022 and start 2023 the Harriers are the ones to chase and with only losing the one game so far in the League it will certainty be an interesting end and run in to the championship being decided. As with Leafield, Kidderminster staff and players have special place in my heart, So if you are reading this have a great Christmas and New year and see you all in 2023.
