Long Eaton 9-1 Leicester City Reserves

Long Eaton welcomed Leah Grant’s Leicester City Women Reserves team to Grange Park, In their second preseason game since the return. It was great to see Jordan Atkin, Jess Munn & Millie Fugler returning as well to action. The weather was set with the Sun playing a game of hide and seek at times but decent conditions for a good 90 minutes of football.

Long Eaton were quite dominate throughout the game as the scoreline showed but Leicester City Reserves never gave up throughout the game as they tried to force there way back into the game, their goal was a fantastically worked goal with a great finish, I’m not sure on any of the names in their team but a few of them showed their class throughout the game up against a hungry and up for it Long Eaton.

Long Eaton were clinical in front of goal and maybe and could of scored work than the 9 they did, the referee was very kind with some decision’s with maybe a few more penalties that could of been given for tackles on Jess Munn & Jordan Atkin. But in the fair play of the game also can’t say the referee had too bad of a game as it flowed and was a well contested game. Long Eaton when they flow are hard to stop with such attacking prowess in the front line and from the wings.

Long Eaton’s goals were spread out as you’d expect with 9 goals as well but 4 players got a brace on the day. Tara Kirk has been working her way up to 90 minutes and got them in and didn’t waste any with 2 goals and also assisting in her work rate. Niki Emery got a double with one of them coming from the penalty spot. Anya-Mae Cresswell also got her a brace with two like-like goals from set pieces first by Molly Boultbee and then by Amy Wells. On her return as well Jess Munn always impresses and added a brace for herself as well but was always in and around the action. And the score was rounded off by a goal from Beth Naqwi which she finished well completing a great day in front of goal for Long Eaton.

John Bennett will no doubt be happy with how the game went and one of those games for Leah Grant that her young team will learn from and come back stronger. Good Luck to Leicester City Women Reserves as they continue back towards some normality in the football pyramid as well.

Long Eaton play Loughborough Foxes next away on Sunday 9th May, Still no fans allowed, which is a huge shame but hopefully soon we can return to some normality really soon. Boris Johnson will announce something on May 17th so hopefully when it comes around to Long Eaton’s next home game that maybe supporters will be allowed to attend as well as other teams up and down the country.

All photos from the game will be uploaded during the week to Flickr on my account
