Liverpool 5-1 Aston Villa

Liverpool 5-1 Aston Villa

Goal : Jones

15/11/17, Select Security Stadium

Conti Cup

A trip to Widnes would be my first time seeing Aston Villa Ladies since the big changes of so many going to America and the change in management and backroom staff. It was against the FAWSL one champions of the past in Liverpool, which would never be an easy task. This became quite obvious early on as Liverpool showed their class as Sian Rogers kept Aston Villa in the game with a sting of early saves. But Charles for Liverpool crossed the ball that was met by Hodson to make it 1-0 to the hosts. Villa created a few chances but most of the chances was coming the way of Liverpool as once again Sian Rogers kept out the Liverpool attack. Just before half time Clarke got through the defensive line to make it 2-0 at half time to Liverpool.

Any chance of a Villa comeback was thawted when Greenwood made it 3-0 just after the restart with a questionable penalty as it was up the other end of the ground and the lights so bright at Select Security Stadium it hard to tell whether it was or wasn’t. Villa pulled one back with a shot from Jade Richards falling into the path of Chloe Jones who directed the ball into the net making it 3-1 and a glimmer of a hope. Villa created a few chances as the substitute Tash Baptiste battled hard against the defense a glorious chance didn’t quite fall the way we had wished which could of made it 3-2 and you never know. But just like the full time team proved with fitness at the end a 3-1 game which you are in can change so quickly as a free kick from Weir and Johnson added goals making it 5-1 to Liverpool at the end.

5-1 wasn’t a fair reflection as it looks like one side had battered the other but Villa had moments in the game but clusters of goals at bad times meant it was a big scoreline. I didn’t quite know what to expect as the team is very different to what I saw last season and in the Spring Series and a totally different style of play it seemed, but they didn’t let themselves or the badge down. For me seeing some of the old faces was great, a few missing that didn’t get to see. But I still believe Tash Baptiste to be one of the best forwards in whole of FAWSL 2 right now.

Player Of The Match –

Amy West

It was a hard game to pick someone out as player of the match but as it always a pleasure to see Amy play and she worked so hard in a position where Liverpool are very strong. Never gave up on anything and tried to get the ball back and forward when was possible.
