Easter Sunday saw John Bennett’s Long Eaton United travel to play against Adrian Clements Leafield Athletic at Dickens Heath Sports Club. Leafield had put on a funday for the families and it saw more people attend and enjoy their day out at the football. Both teams were looking to cement points on the board. Long Eaton United looking to finish 4th and Leafield looking to move away from the bottom 3.

Then it was game time in the Sun it was a beautiful day for a match of the beautiful game. The game felt fairly even balanced throughout the 90 minutes. Tiana Hicks was always key to Long Eaton’s attacks and on the 12th minute it was nearly a perfect return from Nikki Emery but her effort went just wide of the target for Long Eaton. Leafield were defending well and keeping the Long Eaton defence on the back foot as well with Daisy-Mai Clements and Chantelle Teare not giving them a chance to relax on the ball.

Daisy-Mai Clements always a danger as the Leagues Top Scorer made sure that Leah Kellogg was equal to her effort on the 27th minute. Long Eaton tried to get the opening goal just before half time but Alex O’Neill pin point ball was collected by Tash Weldon before she went on a run and hit her effort over the bar. But the two teams went into the half time break at 0-0 which on the flow of the first half was a fair scoreline.

It was all to play for in the second half with both teams looking to open the scoring and go onto to take the 3 points. The second half was slow starting it felt with both teams unable to really put pressure on each other. But Long Eaton started to apply some pressure on the Leafield defence but while Long Eaton came forward Leafield looked to get in behind the defence as well.

Chloe Shirley as always was key to Leafield and had her shot well blocked when she looked to pull the trigger on the 64th minute. Tash Weldon was in the action as well making sure to stop Long Eaton taking away her clean sheet. But on the 67th minute Daisy-Mai Clements got the ball down and ran at the defence but just as she cut inside and hit the effort it went wide of the goal.

Chantelle Teare was always a threat as she found herself one on one with Alex O’Neill and ran at her but Alex as always was solid and cleared the lines and clear the threat that could of been late on in the game. Long Eaton kept trying to knock at the door but couldn’t put Tash Weldon under real pressure and it was Chloe Shirley that had the final shot of the game but Leah Kellogg was equal to it. The final whistle went with the score 0-0.

It was nice to be in a ground with so many people that really are just good people, whether it connected with Leafield or with Long Eaton. It’s start’s and leads down from the managers both are top guys who do so much for their teams in Adrian Clements and John Bennett, which leads down to the staff and to all the players. I got asked who I wanted to win and my answer was both because didn’t want to see ethier lose but in reality this season has been fantastic because of memories with both the teams playing.

The easter funday seemed to go down really well including our own Chris Kavanagh and Chris Freville joining in with the Keepie Uppie competition taking on the might of Grace Gregory doing her around the worlds, while the two Chris attempted a few around the bars.
