This week saw some games in the FAWNL Cup, some in the FA Women’s Cup from the week before that was postponed. But as well as that one game in the Midlands Division One and 3 games taking place in the West Midlands Regional Premier League. Coundon Court was my first port of call to see them play Kidderminster Harriers but the game was called off the night before due to unavailable pitch.ย

We will start today in the Women’s FA Cup and the 4 ties that took place. Burton Albion hosted Lichfield City in a all West Midlands Regional Premier League tie. It was Lichfield City who came away with the victory 2-4. Lincoln United picked up a 7-0 win at home over Northampton Town and Wem Town were victors against Chesterfield in a 1-0 win.

Long Eaton 0-6 Leafiled Athletic

the final remaining FA Cup game saw Aid Clements team travel to Grange Park, a place earlier in the Midlands Division One had seen the home team pick up their only win of the season. It was Kathryn Pagan who got Leafield to a great start picking up the opening goal on the 14th minute. Leonie Joyce added a second while Jessica Lowe was on the scoresheet too. But to complete a 0-6 victory it was the work of a hattrick by Chloe Shirley that made sure Leafield go on to face Sutton Coldfield in the next round of the Women’s FA Cup.

There was 4 games in the FAWNL Cup that involved Midlands Division One teams but unfortunately the results all went the way of the other teams. AFC Fylde beat Doncaster 2-1, Leeds United were winners over Solihull Moors 3-1. West Brom and Boldmere both were away from home but came away with the wins. Boldmere beat Sporting Khalsa 1-5 and West Brom beat Leek Town 1-3.

3 games in the West Midlands Regional Premier League with Coundon Court and Kidderminster being called off took place. Sporting Solihull picked up an impressive win at home 3-2 over Worcester City, according to Full time website 5 goals and a red card for Holly Rogers. Olivia Mitcham netted both of Worcester Citys goals but in a losing effort. Lye Town picked up 3 points away from home over Crusaders with a 1-3 win.ย

Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Sutton Coldfield

The biggest match up of weekend for the West Midlands Regional Premier League saw Ryan Hamilton’s team extend their lead at the top to 3 points. Shrewsbury although 8 points behind have 2 games in hand over Sutton. But a huge win for sure for the Birmingham outfit. Of course who else but Maddie Jones netted for Shrewsbury but goals for Chloe Handy and Carly Aldred in a 4 minute period gave the away team the 3 points to take home.

Stourbridge Town 1-1 Sheffield FC

My first visit to War Memorial Ground was to see Stourbridge Vs Sheffield. A chance to catch up with John Bennett who always got time for, a top guy and top manager. After being caught in a monsoon on the way it was time for the kick off and both teams were set to get underway with a rainbow in the background. Stourbridge would be looking for some kind of revenge with avenging their opening day loss to Sheffield FC.ย

The game as a whole won’t count as it was abandoned on the 78th minute when Zoe Clarke was injured and an ambulance was needed. Thankfully the main thing is that Zoe is recovering and ok. She was having a fantastic game and really dictating the game at that point.

Sheffield took the lead in the first half when some fantastic work saw the ball held up in the box and instead of taking a pop shot or wasting it, the player (I’m sorry I don’t know their name) played the ball back to Amy Nelson who hit her effort into the back of the net. In fairness you have to take your chances and although Stourbridge were on top Sheffield took the lead into the half time break.

Stourbridge were looking to get a goal to get back in the game which included rattling the bar and also somehow Niamh Deasy had an effort which hit the post off her head which looked alot easier to score. But eventually while knocking on the door it was none other than Niamh Deasy who left the keeper no chance as she pulled Stourbridge level.ย

The game was brought to an end with the injury and it looks like on FA Fulltime website that the game will be replayed 11th December. Overall it was a good visit to Stourbridge for the first time with some fantastic people involved in the club.
