It was Leafield’s 6th preseason game and the last but one game against Worcester City at Claines Lane. It was a day of 34 degrees weather and the sun was relentless but it would be a great test for fitness and game time. On a first visit to Worcester City the set up was really nice and picturesque as the game got underway, one thing loved was the ducks in the water off to the right hand side of the pitch.

But away from the ducks the game got underway with the Sun blazing down and although Worcester have made some great signings it was quite obvious to see that Leafield were going to be the better team from the get go. There are two things you can almost count on when seeing Leafield. One a great day and also secondly Daisy Mai Clements will have the ball in the back of the net. The opening goal came from a beautiful Jessica Lowe ball into the box that found Daisy Mai Clements at the far post as she tapped it into the back of the net to make it 0-1.

Worcester wasn’t going to lie down of course and tried with Trialist to get back into the game and keep Demi Booth and Alex Buck honest at the back but the two defenders made sure that the clean sheet was alive.

But it was Daisy Mai Clements once again that had the ball in the back of the net. Tilly Chase played a fantastic ball through to Daisy who if you give her a sniff of goal she is going to finish it. A low driven finish saw the score become 0-2 and her second of the game.

It was time for one more goal just before half time and she could of had a few before she got her name on the team sheet. But the top lino but the flag down and hit a great finish to give Leafield a 0-3 lead going into half time and Chloe Barker-Duthie got her name and well deserved on the score sheet.

It was such a hot day so in between the water breaks and people needing treatment and tiredness the second half saw alot of effort but not alot of clear cut chances. Kathryn Pagan was unlucky to not get her name on the scoresheet as well. The defence looked strong and solid and made sure that Colette Bell didn’t have much to do in the goal throughout the 90 minutes. But the one goal in the second half came from Jessica Lowe. Jessica cut inside and hammered a low hard drive at the goal to make it 0-4. A goal well deserved and a player that has just joined Leafield but already has made a big impact so far, scoring 3 goals already and creating assists.

As the team starts to take shape it was a great first outing for Annabel Davies as well who looked really good in the centre of the pitch and will no doubt grow and connect more with the team as the season gets underway.

After 6 preseason games the team are looking forward to their final game on Wednesday against Crusaders before taking on Leek Town in the opening game at home at Dickens Heath. It will no doubt be such a good and competitive season once again when it gets underway on Sunday, August 21st.
