Boldmere 1-3 Leafield Athletic

An extremely Sunny day at Boldmere for our third away game of the season out of three. Against a team who many may tip for promotion after coming down from tier 3 the season before. I took my place in the Sun with the wasps buzzing about, the warm up’s were complete and the teams lined up ready for the start of the game.

We needed a good start to the game and you could say the Lioness had been resting but not for long as within a couple of minutes our desire to win the ball back around Boldmere’s box saw the ball come through to Leonie Joyce’s boot who didn’t take a moment’s thought to drive the ball goalwards against her former team. 0-1 within first few minutes meant it was the perfect start for Leafield

But then as she always does Colette Bell evolved like a Pokemon or Morphed like a Power Ranger. Of course save after save being her purpose in the Leafield goal. Leafield defended well and didn’t let Boldmere’s pressure tell. Leonie had the ball in the net but was adjudged offside but another impressive first time finish, showing how deadly she truly is.

The first half whistle went with Leafield leading 0-1 with Leonie Joyce’s early goal being the difference between the two teams.

The second half kicked off with a big 45 minutes ahead. It was almost the worst start possible when Boldmere was awarded a penalty by the referee. But when you have Colette Bell in goal and maybe a touch of karma. The penalty was saved with a strong hand by Colette Bell. But before could celebrate the save we had conceded off the following corner as Jade Formaston headed home to make it 1-1.

The game saw Boldmere on the front foot with Leafield defending well and countering via the fantastic midfield effort.  After Colette Bell was once again called into action and a incredible show of desire to clear the ball off the line by the Leafield defence.

On the 90th minute who else but Leonie Joyce again showed her awareness and willing to pounce as she broke in behind the Boldmere defence and slammed the ball home to complete her brace putting Leafield 1-2 up as we entered injury time.

But as Boldmere pushed further forward Leafield broke in behind once again with Sarah Hazell finishing with calm and coolness that she carry’s on a daily basis on and off the pitch. The score was now 1-3 as we entered the final minutes of the game. Of course the referee had to give Boldmere one more penalty with the final kick of the game but they dragged in wide seeing the final whistle go with Leafield winning 1-3.

The aftermatch, the cooldown. What a result by the team the first 3 points of the season for us it what has been a tough opening for us with away games to Sporting Khalsa, Durham Cestria and now Boldmere. Couldn’t be prouder of the effort by everyone and this team truly is something special, a Yellow and Black family. We have two more games this week as we take on Sutton Coldfield at home on Wednesday 6th at Highgate and also Leek Town at home on Sunday 10th.

The photos will be completed by tomorrow night hopefully so keep checking back or wait for the full link to be posted.

WE AE LEAFIELD!!
