Midlands Divison One Team 2021/2022

It feels a while since I’ve put together one of these. Apart from seeing Villa in the FAWSL, most of my time this season was spent in Midlands Division One. I didn’t see all teams as ever saw Doncaster Belles and Lincoln City play (I did Lincoln turn up on a coach before the game was called off). I had mentioned before the season about how great this season would be. With Wolverhampton Wanderers being moved up the league was wide open, which showed with the top 3 being separated by only 3 points.

Boldmere went on to win the League by 2 points over Doncaster Belles and Lincoln City in third place. Wem Town, Burton Albion and Bedworth United found themselves in the relegation places as this season 3 teams were facing the drop. After 22 games the season came to an end on the 1st of May.

As always this is my team, the team I have put together so of course some won’t agree, some will argue but it’s my choices on my favourite players to see play in the past season.

Stacey Garnham – Sporting KHalsa – 30 Apps – Goalkeeper

Stacey was a great goalkeeper back when used to see her put on the gloves for The New Saints. In the game against Leafield Athletic for Sporting Khalsa she was so key in playing the sweeper keeper and making sure that she kept her clean sheet. Looking at FA Fulltime website she has also picked up 5 Opposition Player Of The Match awards too.

Millie fugler – long eaton united – 25 Apps, 1 goal – Defender

Millie stepped into be Long Eaton United’s Captain when injury in preseason saw Annie Taylor be out for the season, a massive loss for the team. But Millie stepped up to take the armband and in the games I saw her play she always put in a shift worthy of the Captains armband. You need your Captain to be vocal but also effective and Millie ticked both those boxes.

Becky Arnold – Leek Town – 22 Apps – Defender

Becky Aka Super Ducky, always such a personality on the pitch to have, she moved into their defensive line and is a no thrills, says it like it is kind of defender. Always great to see her play and doesn’t mind telling you what she thinks of her own free kicks. But also off the pitch one of the best people you could ever meet, always smiling.

Jenna Roberts – Solihull Moors – 20 Apps, 2 goals – Defender

Always been a big fan of Jenna ever since her days with Aston Villa Development and Coventry United. But Jenna proved why she is a quality player throughout the season even when she had a different name on the back of her shirt. Just her playing in the team was worth admission alone. Concussion played havoc with her game time as well but a massive season coming up no doubt s well next season.

Alex O’neill – long eaton united – 23 apps – Defender

Alex joined up with Long Eaton United this season and has proved her worth in no time at all. Picking up Managers & Players Player Of The Season for them. Always a big part of the game on the wing for the team with going forwards and also getting back to defend. Deserved a goal for the season but will next no doubt.

Evie Billingsley – Boldmere – 22 Apps, 7 Goals – Midfielder

In any Boldmere game that I’ve seen this season Evie has always been key in the middle of the pitch. Wether it winning the ball back and turning defence into attack or getting forward to give Boldmere the edge up top. Evie has one hell of a shot on her and loves scoring a cracker or two in the season.

Chloe Shirley – Leafield Athletic – 18 Apps, 6 goals – Midfielder

Anyone who follows me will know that Chloe Shirley has been a player that truly impresses me all the time. Her work ethic and skill on the ball can’t be match at times. Small in stature but so big in impact. Loves scoring a screamer but does the dirty work for the team throughout games as well.

Katie Johnson – Leafield Athletic – 20 Apps, 16 goals – Forward

Katie Johnson was on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers and so dynamic for Leafield Athletic. But not only with scoring 16 goals but also but also showing her ability to create for the team with 13 assists. On her return to Wolves she also picked up Player Of The Month which isn’t a suprise. A diamond on and off the pitch.

Tiana Hicks – Long Eaton United – 24 apps, 17 goals – Midfielder

Tiana probably one of the League’s truly unsung heroes when you have her in your team you instantly become a better team for me. Her work rate is unmatched  throughout the game for her team. The stats alone prove what a key player she was for Long Eaton United and easily one of my favourite people to see play this season.

Daisy-Mai Clements – Leafield Athletic – 30 apps, 27 goals – Forward

Daisy is the definition of Pace, Maze and Daze. When she is on the ball people don’t often get it from her with her pace and her skill as the defenders try to keep up. But the stats back up why she ended up picking up an award at the end of the season alone. To me an amazing player and person. So key to Leafield Athletic.

Steph Weston – Boldmere – 23 Apps, 13 goals – forward

Steph is a player that always seems to have an impact on the game she apart of. Injuries meant last season she didn’t get to shine as much as she can. But this season with her team winning the league her 13 goals and assists proves just how important she is to Boldmere and their promotion push.
