This week saw the Midlands Division One back in action again and the West Midlands Premier League finding themselves entering the Vitality Women’s FA Cup in the second round qualifying stage. As well as alot happening on the pitch also we saw Piers Webster leave Redditch United and also Bedworth United Ladies removed from the table after what I have heard they have folded which is a massive shame.

There was 6 fixtures in the Midlands Division One the game I attended was Leafield taking on Peterborough which you can read a little more about below that ended in a 0-0 draw.

Northampton Town 7-0 Long Eaton United

The biggest result had to come at Harpole FC for a few reasons. It was Northampton Town’s first victory in tier 4 as well as the Cobblers first clean sheet. The game saw Alex Dicks bag a hatrick and Beth Luttman adding a brace. The final two goals came from Mia Richards and Grace Williams. The game was 4-0 at half time and gave the 167 fans in attendance something to cheer about. Personally have to say really happy for Ella Bailey and the team as they were so nice when I attended the MK Don’s game in preseason.

The remaining 5 games in the division saw Stourbridge pick up another win and 3 points. Goals from Meg Hadley, Alex Nicklin and Lili Beth Bown saw Stourbridge remain top of the table after 6 games. Solihull Moors and Sporting Khalsa both picked up 1-2 victory’s away from home as well.

The final 2 games ended in draws with Leafield Athletic drawing 0-0 with Peterborough Town. Wem Town visited Leek Town and both teams shared the points in a 2-2 result.

The West Midlands Regional teams were in Women’s FA Cup action with 10 of the 11 involved. The only game that didn’t take place was Lye Town Ladies against Bedworth United Ladies, with Lye Town receiving a walkover.

Worcester City picked up a 8-1 victory over City Of Stoke that was also matched by Shrewsbury Town who beat Coventry City 8-1. Burton Albion picked up a 6-0 victory over Bewdley Town. Lichfield City walked away as 5-1 winners over AFC Telford and Sporting Solihull picked up a 0-4 win over Walsall.

Sutton Coldfield got the 0-1 win away to Leamington Ladies. But it wasn’t a day to remember for David Healy and his Kidderminster Harriers team as they lost out 2-3 to Coventry Sphinx’s and Coundon Court missed out with Knowle pipping them at home 2-3. The final two games saw Redditch United lose 0-4 to Redditch Borough and Crusaders lose 0-4 to Shifnal Town.

The 7 teams that made it through to the next round have all received their draw for the next round which will take place on Sunday 23rd October when the Midlands Division One teams also enter the competition.

Leafield Athletic 0-0 Peterborough Town

The game I attended in the Midlands Division One was bound to be a close but good affair between two teams that are improving on and off the pitch. It’s no surprise to see the two teams go to battle and come out with a point a piece as well as a clean sheet. It was great to be back at Dickens Heath once again as the last time Leafield played there was 21st August.

Colette Bell was on top form and denied Tara Kirk who’s header looked goal bound but somehow tipped it onto the bar. Kathryn Pagan looked like she had opened the scoring before her effort hit the post and bounced out.

The two teams tried to get themselves on the scoresheet but it wasn’t meant to be as the game ended 0-0 and the points shared. Colette Bell for me was player of the match with her fantastic saves that made sure she kept her clean sheet.
